If you are looking for a book that really opens your eyes to the early stages of Hollywood, the living conditions of Victorian times and an insight into the comedy genius that was one of our forefathers of comedy and slapstick, then this is a book truly not to be missed. The book whilst extremely long (just over 500 pages) really delves into the life of such an extraordinary character and will make you want to keep turning the page to find out what is the next thing that is going to happen on this roller coaster of a journey.
The book looks at his childhood and his relationship with his mother and his brother and the extremely hard up bringing that they had always scraping to find money or eating whatever they could find. It explains how he fell in love with the theatre and how he journeyed to America to take on Hollywood.
It goes into depth about the film making process and how he started to creat some of the best silent films of his time. Whilst it is a long book to read it is a really in depth and interesting look at the time and teaches you about the comedians and the actors that he mingled with at the time even if some of them are brief it still has in depth descriptions.
For anyone that is a fan of Charlie Chaplin or the Film Industry this is a must read as its truly inspirational and really does make you want to watch more films of old Hollywood
