This week we delve into the pop music of the nineties and look at an artist that became famous due to his time on soaps such as Coronation Street and then decided to follow the trend of people leaving and becoming pop stars. This week we look at the music career of Adam Rickitt.
Adam shot to stardom when he took over the role of Nick Tisley in the soap Coronation Street in 1997, the original actor to play the role was Warren Jackson however the character moved to Canada. Rickett was not in the show that many years and left in 1999 and made a few appearances throughout the noughties.
He left Coronation Street in 1999 to start music career and signed a six album deal with the record label Polydor, however due to sales he only ever released one album called Good Times. His first ever single that was released was called ‘I Breathe Again’ and it did reasonably well in the UK chart as it reached number 5. His follow up singles were ‘Everything My Heart Desires’ and ‘Best Thing’ however they were not as successful and they didn’t make the top ten in the charts. This lead to Adam being dropped by his record label and quitting his career in music.
